On the 20th of December, a contingent of Occupy DC activists showed up outside the offices of the United States Trade Representative for a lunchtime round of delegate heckling as they made their way in and out for lunch.

The TTIP is the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. The 3ed round of TTIP talks ran from December 16 through Dec 20 at USTR, drawing protesters to Dulles Airport twice, USTR three times, and the home of the chief US negotiator once. The Dec 20 round of protests was meant as a reminder that few outside corporate boardroom want any more NAFTA’s/

Protesters emphasized that already Phillip-Morris is suing Australia under an earlier trade deal for a campaign aganst teenage smoking that has allegedly reduced cigarette profits. The TTIP was called part of a “global corporate coup,” accurately so in my judgement given the focus on such things as overturning bans of GMO crops already in place in 35 nations. Fortunately, leaked documents from the related TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) talks reveal that other nations are standing up to USTR’s bullying and the US position on such things as “intellectual property” stand nearly alone.
