On the 19th of December, FERC, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission held their 1000th today, with all their past commissioners in attendance. Also present was Chesapeake Earth First! with signs and T-shirts condemning Dominion Energy’s proposed gas export facility at Cove Point on the Chesapeake Bay
Security guards were prepared to expel the activists, but since the activists were silently holding signs they chose not to engage. With the obvious tension none of the activists decided to break formation to get a photo from ahead of the signs.
The focus of the action was to encourage FERC to REJECT Dominion’s application for permits required to convert the old gas import terminal at Cove Point to an export facility.
A gas export facility would increase wholesale gas prices in the US to global levels that are up to three times higher, causing a boom in fracking and raising home heating gas prices about 40%.
