On the 4th of October, neighborhood actvists showed up again at the Wal-Mart construction site at Ga Ave and Missouri Ave.
They were there primarily to show to Wal-Mart’s neighbors that opposition continues and that the fight is by no means over.
There was discussion of the likelihood that this Wal-Mart may plan to open on Black Friday. There was also discussion of the implications of Foulger-Pratt’s unsafe construction at the Silver Spring Transit Center, and the resulting question of will Wal-Mart’s building even be safe.
The vigils are every Friday at 5:30 PM at Ga Ave and Missouri Ave. The theme is “Jericho” and activists walk around the site like the warriors who circled the ancient city of Jericho 7 times before blowing the trumpets, at which point the city walls crumbled. Some say the trumpets were the signal to sappers who undermined the fortified walls. Today, Wal-Mart is undermining towns and cities across all over Turtle Island!
