On the 17th of August, advocates of full equality for migrants to the US showed up in front of the White House, demanding nothing less than an end to deportations and the very concept of “illegal” status.
Migrants from Central America, South America, Asia, and Africa were all represented. Many pointed out that their home countries have been economically occupied by “free trade” deals with the US. It is well known that NAFTA forced a wave of migration out of Mexico as it’s provisions shattered the Mexican economy.
Many of the speakers emphasized a connection between immigrant rights and women’s rights, given that up to 75% of all migrants into the area claimed by the “United States” are women and children.
I spoke myself at the rally, reminding everyone that ICE is filled with settlers whose ancestors invaded this continent from the sea. I said that if ICE and their friends don’t like immigration they should get back on their ships and get the hell off this continent!
