On the 22nd of July, Obama had a scheduled appearance at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel near L’enfant Plaza. Protesters from the Sierra Club, Climate First! and other pro-Earth organizations were waiting for him-again.
At first, protesters were directly in front of the hotel. About 1/2 hour before Obama arrived, everyone marched down to the intersection of 12th st and MD Ave. This was farther from the hotel-but in a location the motorcade could not bypass.
The motorcade did not go up MD Ave to the front of the hotel, going right on by to use the street behind it and no doubt the service entrance.
Obama has already passed what was his deadline to make a decision about the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Activists are demanding he put action behind his promise to decide the question based on climate change-and reject the pipeline.
