On the 29th of June, Code Pink discussed their recent trip to Yemen to meet with familes of drone strike victims and Gitmo detainees. The house was packed at Busboys and Poets.
I found particularily disturbing the fact that Code Pink was able to find two families of cab drivers who were killed by drone strikes on their taxis. They had allegedly picked up men the US wanted to kill, without even knowing who they were. In rural Yemen, a tribal society, it is quite common for men to travel armed, so for a cabdriver a load of men carrying rifles is probably a very common fare.
My half brother used to drive a cab for Barwood. What the US has done in Yemen is comparable to executing him without trial for unknowingly picking up gang members. In fact, Code Pink reported that al-Qaeda (AQAP) recruits young men and behaves very much the way a street gang in LA would. This raises yet another question: with police agencies buying drones, are drone strikes inside the US against alleged gang members next?
