Climate Chaos films shown on walls of Heritage Foundation, Capitol Hill Exxon

On the evening of the 16th of February, activists connected with the big Feb 17 march against the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline stages the “Climate Chaos” guerrilla film showing. The event staged out of Stanton Park, warming up with a rock band powered by bicycle crank generators.

After about an hour, the whole group marched to the headquarters of the Heritage Foundation, a white stone building whose main limitation as a movie screen is those windows whose shades are not drawn.

Films were shown targetting the Koch Brothers, the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, and gas fracking. All of these are things supported by the Heritage Foundation and reviled by pro-Earth activists. The special surprise was the “Exxon Hates Your Children” commercial that was supposed to run on Comcast close to the State of the Union address. Comcast refused to air it citing Exxon’s intimidation tactics. As a result, the projection session wrapped up with a march of less than a block to Capitol Hill Exxon.

At the Exxon station, the heavy carts bearing the projector, the battery pack, and speakers had to be maneuvered into position like siege engines in a medieval army, quickly by precisely. The “cavalry” summoned by Exxon did not arrive until after the “Exxon Hates Your Children” had aired numerous times on a wall adjoining the station and the session had been ended.
