Massive pre-inaugural march demands “No Blank Check for Israel”

Two days before Obama’s second inauguration, over a thousand peoplOn of the speakers at the pre-march rally pointed out that the extreme right settler parties are likely to win Israel’s upcoming elections outright.

The rally staged out of Farragut Square, which is free of Park Police fencing and other such litter. The crowd would have fit barely or not at all in the remaining open areas of McPherson Square.

There were NO cops showing themselves in or near the march except inside the fenced area around Lafayette Park. Unable to enter Lafayette Park from H street, the march went around the fences to 15th st, and entered Penn Ave. At that point marchers proceeded past the White House on the route the Inaugural motorcade will use two days later. After stopping in front of the reviewing stands, marchers returned to Farragut Square for a free concert,

With the latest settlement plans aimed at cutting the West Bank in half, it is do or die time to anyone hoping for a two-state solution. Never has the need for what is known as “boycott, divestment, sanctions” been more urgent.

Obama made some grand promises about reeling in Israeli aggression and apartheid early in his first term but has not delivered on any of them. To his credit he has slowed Israel’s unilateral push for war on Iran, but he has failed to publicly warn the Israelis that they would fight alone, much less against US opposition in such a war. e marched demanding an end to the US blank check of financial and military assistance to Israel.
