The Slutwalks began in Toronto after a woman was raped and the cops told her she “brought it on herself” by not dressing conservatively enough. Outrages women stated the first of many “slutwalks,” and on August 13 the event came to DC.
Several hundred marchers took to the streets despite rain just before they started to gather and an outright thunderstorm during the Sylvan Theater rally after the march. Both men and women were represented, of all sexual preferences, with dress varying from almost nothing a some women in Muslim veils. All had the same message-that how someone dresses is NEVER an open sexual invitation to all and sure as hell not consent to rape.
